Civil Society Fieldwork with

THE NEW YORK GRADUATE PLAN

Students will explore complex issues on an international scale through collecting evidence from credible sources, analyzing all findings, and developing informed conclusions. Through this process, the students under their Focus will develop critical thinking skills for their academic and career advancement, to be greater informed citizens , and create habits for sustained, life-long learning

IN CIVIL SOCIETY at the UNITED NATIONS

UN Civil Society Engagement


Students of the New York Graduate Plan will utilize their newfound expertise to work with active Civil Society coalitions in New York City. Through the knowledge and skills developed from their training, participants will begin advocating in various high-level functions at the United Nations along one of Nonviolence International New York’s three track focuses: (a) International Disarmament, (b) Peace Education, or (c) Social Development.




Practical Peacebuilding


Students will learn the art of crafting professional campaigns for peacebuilding causes and events, developing plans, research, strategy and implementaion tactics for real grassroots projects. Students will collaborate with grassroots organizations and their peers throughout New York City to lead the development and promotion of an online event at the conclusion of the semester. The program aims to empower passionate individuals to be able to lead campaigns of their own.




Nonviolent Methodologies


Students will utilize their skills as researchers and writers to develop a formal analysis on a topic of their studies or recent international conflict.Over the course of the semester, students will be expected to explore their area of focus through inquiry, collection of evidence, and conducting interviews with relevant stakeholders. Students will analyze all findings to achieve the ultimate goal of a developed paper to be published by both Nonviolence International New York and UNITAR.
